Happy New Year 2012!!!
Scribe: Cindy A
So, it's January 1, 2012, the first day of the year in which we will travel once again. This time we will be going to the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, a Lakota reservation. We have been heavily into fundraising and complete our annual First Bites food stand at First Night Beverly just last night. Although Dave and I took a year off, we hear that it was well attended and that a good deal of money was raised!
Right now, we are still collecting hats, coats, and gloves to send out to the reservation shortly. If you have anything that you can donate, please bring them to the church. Please make sure that everything is in good condition. If you wouldn't wear it yourself, it probably isn't appropriate to donate.
If you would like to know a little more about the are that we will be going to, check out this special by Diane Sawyer. http://abc.go.com/watch/2020/SH559026/VD55148316/2020-1014-children-of-the-plains Pine Ridge is the reservation next to Rosebud and the conditions are similar. If this doesn't tug at the heart, I'm not sure what will.
Watch this space throughout the winter and spring for fundraisers and other information. When I post again, I'll have dates and some more information about the are to which we are traveling. I think you will find it very interesting!
New Year's blessings to all my faithful readers!
