"I got the horse and she got the saddle.......
We like to ride side by side. I got the horse and she got the saddle. Together we'll ride, ride, ride."
These were the lyrics playing on the radio on the only station I could get that plays music. I liked it, the tune was catchy!
So, the second deck got finished at the trailer! It looks fabulous. Props to Alison and Adam, who completed the project without Dave, who got moved to another site, or me, out on medical leave. They're a great team. So good, in fact, that we are getting moved to a second staircase tomorrow. I've dubbed our team The Stair-Masters.
I got to see one of the Whipple houses today. Whipple is an unincorporated town, built to house coal miners. It's now basically a shanty-town...very poor, with a pitbull chained in every yard. We saw a sign for free puppies...couldn't even imagine what breed they might be. Really sad. They stand at the end of their chains and bark and bark. Just a commercial for spaying and neutering.
I haven't yet heard what the other groups were able to accomplish today. We did have another thundershower after lunch, causing us to take a brief interlude. That's all for now....

Hi Cindy,
First of all, yes, I can serve communion on Sunday.
It's cooler here today (only 84 degrees) but the humidity is even higher with the dewpoint reaching 73. If the dewpoint gets any higher, it will be raining in my living room! It made me appreciate even more how outstanding your efforts are to be able to accomplish so much in such difficult weather.
Sorry to hear that you're on medical leave, Cindy, and hope you'll be feeling better tomorrow. Since everyone knows what a devoted dog lover and protector you are, it must have been difficult for you to see those dogs in Whipple.
I was all set to head out for a Historical Society tour of the cemetery behind First Baptist when a dramatic late afternoon thunder shower swept through, which was ironic because there was heavy rain when the tour was scheduled for early June. I've yet to hear what ghosts haunt that cemetery. Salem streets were flooded, Route 9 was under water, and Storrow Drive East was closed to traffic. Even the dugout at Fenway Park was flooded, despite the efforts of the grounds crew to install sandbags (no kidding).
Speaking of the Red Sox, their fortunes continue to decline. Last night they lost 9-1 to the lowly Indians, Lester's 4th loss in a row. I think this time we have to cut him a little slack though, since he and his wife just had a baby boy a few days ago. It's official that Youk will be having surgery on his thumb tomorrow and will be out for the rest of the season. And the Sox are about to begin a four games series with the Yankees (yikes).
Tomorrow is your last work day. You've already accomplished so much, and the end is almost in sight. I'm curious to hear what the final decision is for your Friday night celebration outing. when will you be leaving on Saturday, and what is your ETA on Sunday? Any sightseeing plans along the trip home?
Hope your last work day is a little cooler and more comfortable.

Hi Cindy,
Hope you are feeling better today. With the heat and humidity everyone has done well to "keep on plugging". Sounds you have been able to accomplish so much in a few days. (It always is amazing, is it?) How sad to hear of those dogs.
I have really enjoyed reading your daily news. Thanks for taking the time after a long busy day.
The food has sounded wonderful, but I knew Peg and Jed were great cooks from those Mission lunches we did. When are they opening up a restaurant?
Hope the group found something fun to do tonight. I have heard that the Gorge is very pretty and of course there is shopping. Were you able to find any of those local crafts like we did in Kentucky?
I hope you all have a safe trip back to the North. Looking forward to Mission Sunday.
Suzanne
