Rainy Day here in WV

So, this morning it's pouring out. Dave and I got soaked as we ran an early errand to Lowes, but no harm was done! Some supplies are being brought to us from the trailer site as there is a large indoor garage that we can work in. We have to cut some stringers for the deck stairs, so we are at least going to try and get that done. Some folks with indoor work have headed out, too. The forecasts are conflicted, so we don't really know if we'll get outside today or not. I'll write more as we know it.

For lunch, Dominoes is scheduled to deliver pizza, gratis. This is something they do for every work group that comes down. The folks here are so gracious and we are very blessed.

Friday night we have to vacate the gym at 4:30pm, so we are trying to decide what to do with ourselves for dinner and after. So far, the preference for dinner is a return to Dirty Ernie's and for after, choices range from shopping to a tour of New River Gorge, to a swimming party (we have access to a pool). So we'll see what the final decision is.

More later.....

    Hi Cindy and friends,

I am enjoying all the news. Sorry you have rain. Beverly is very hot and humid but only 91. Luckily the AC was working on the Bookmobile today.

Today is the Lobster Fest at Lynch Park with a bike race tonight. Many roads were being closed off at 3 this afternoon, however did they think to publish the bike race route- NO. So who knows where the race is going.

    Thinking of you all, Suzanne

    Hi Cindy, Julie, et al,

My thermometer here in Centerville said 93 degrees today, but the humidity is ferocious and continuing to rise. It's a good day to be a kid at summer camp or a person eating lobster at Lynch Park. It's definitely a very bad day to be a furry creature like a rabbit or a lawn.

It sounds worse where you are but, if it's any consolation to you, the weather map on the national news showed WV as pink, surrounded by a huge block of southern states in bright red, even hotter. Kentucky and other states were 107 degrees but felt like 120 because of the humidity. One couple even succeeded in baking a tray of cookies on the dashboard of their car!

You are all really heroes to be doing such good work in such trying conditions.

Difficult news for those who are following the Red Sox: Youkilis suffered a bizarre injury to a muscle in his right thumb during Monday's game. He's not even sure how it happened. How bizarre is it? When asked how many athletes have this injury, Youk replied, "Zero." Even his specialist at New England Baptist (yay!)said he had never seen this injury in the 25 years of his practice. If Youk needs surgery (still to be determined), his season is over (boo).

Good news for the Red Sox is that Jacoby Ellsbury is (finally) back in the rotation tonight, returning to his usual spot in center field. Hope he does as well back in the majors as he's been doing in the minors (much controversy up here about that).

Stay as cool as you can. I'm trying to imagine what wonderful meal Peg and Jed and their helpers are preparing for you tonight.

    Hello again,

Two more pieces of good news (maybe you have good access to news and information there?) -

    (1) Topping the oil well in the Gulf with mud and drilling fluid has been successful, and the well is considered sealed now, although they are continuing with the relief wells as a back-up. Hurray!

    (2) A judge in California gave a very affirming ruling that the law passed by the voters of California by 52% two years ago to overturn gay marriage, is unconstitutional. He stated very clearly that gay couples are equal and just as good as heterosexual couples in every way. It seems very likely that this case is on its way to the Supreme Court.

Hope the rain is cooling things off! I wimped out and stayed in air conditioning all day! Zach has gotten back to hanging out with friends and is happy to get away from his overly-doting mom. We both miss being able to get away and hang with our favorite people! We'll pray for cooler weather for you tomorrow!
