we are here…We Are Here…WE ARE HERE!!!

Scribe: Cindy

Like the Who’s, trying to make their presence known to Horton the elephant, we have arrived and made our mark on Lafitte, LA! Traveling was relatively painless, with one minor rain delay in Newark that caused us to sit at the gate for about 20 minutes before pushing back and getting airborne.

We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday night, including local favorites like fried frog legs, broiled catfish, fried flounder, and, of course, crawfish! We retired relatively early, as everyone was really tired.

Today, we attended church at the Barataria Baptist Church, a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. The congregation was very welcoming and we sang several hymns. Theologically, we are pretty far apart, but they blessed us richly on our journey here and couldn’t have been nicer.

Today, after a brief thunder storm, we toured the work sites. There is still much to be done for some folks, like Sherrie and Gene who are still in a FEMA trailer 3 years after the storms, and the woman who paid a contractor to do the work on her home, but he left with the money and did no work.

Right now, internet access is a challange. I'm currently sitting in McDonald's parking lot, using there WiFi!

I hope to write more tomorrow and have pictures for you. The work groups have been established and are heading out at 8am tomorrow morning. Please continue to send your good wishes and, of course, your prayers.

    Hi Cindy,
I am sending this message to Suzanne Harlow. I checked on CVS Pharmacies close to Lafitte so she can get replacement medications for her bug bite allergies (they were in her lost bag) She has the phone numbers but will need a ride to the CVS at 1600 Lapalco Blvd in Harvey, LA which is 10.7 miles away. I know Suzanne and she won't ask, would just swell up! Could you see she gets a ride to refill her prescriptions.
Sorry Suzanne, I am a meddler!
I so admire the work you do and have followed your trips. I can't believe that some are still living in trailers, unbelievable.
    Thanks Cindy

    Hi all,
Jed has filled us in on your trip so far. Sounds as though you have all been very busy. He mentioned the storms and Terry's great sheppards pie! Hope you can keep the blog going, it keeps us closer to you all.

    Hi Everyone:

Glad you all made it safely. The weather up here says there is a hurricane headed down there. Is it near you guys? I hope not. Simba says he hopes not also, he has been very afraid of the thunderstorms here.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your work there.

Prayers are with all of you and Mr. Dog too.

    Love,
    J

    Hi!

Glad to hear that everyone arrived safely! FBC was in the news. Apparently a worker fell about 15 feet from the steeple scaffolding and hurt his leg. There were cameras and live coverage and everything! Hope you don't get too much rain from the storm! Keep blogging! Dianne C.
